Public Security ministry to counter drug menace

COLOMBO (News1st): The newly established public security ministry will aim at eradicating theft, murder, rape, extremism, and terrorism, its minister Sarath Weerasekara has said. Ending anti-social activities such as drug usage, particularly at schools, will be a priority, the retired Navy rear admiral who took oaths on Thursday told reporters in Colombo. He added that eliminating child abuse and violence against women, and combatting underworld activities are other tasks that will fall under his purview. ''I invite those involved in underworld activities, to come forward and reform themselves to be better people," he said.
