Colombo (News 1st); 04 Traffic Police Officers attached to the Peradeniya Police have tested positive for COVID-19 following PCR tests carried out on 28 Traffic Police Officers.
Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana speaking to reporters said 2,800 police officers are in quarantine at present while a total of over 800 police officers were exposed to COVID-19.
A majority of these cases are attached to the Police Special Task Force and police stations in Colombo, he said.
The Police Spokesperson said COVID-19 infiltrated Sri Lanka Police after police officers had purchased fish from the Peliyagoda Fish Market for police and STF cafeterias.
However, he said the spread of COVID-19 among police officers was controlled through the implementation of strict health guidelines.
