Colombo (News 1st); The Mawanella Magistrate's Court issued an interim order preventing the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha from convening for a period of 07 days from Tuesday (10) for its monthly session.
The order was issued in respect of the Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman and Secretary, said Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana.
Based on the court order, the sessions of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha cannot be held under any circumstances, and if the Chairman or the Secretary violates the order, Sri Lanka Police file charges against them for contempt of court.
The Mawanella Police had received information of the monthly sessions of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha was to be held on Tuesday (10) morning, said the Deputy Police Chief.
Mawanella is an area placed in lockdown and the movement is strictly restricted, he added.
Police reported facts to the court in terms of Section 106 of the Code of Criminal Procedure Act No. 15 of 1979 and the provisions of the Quarantine and Prevention of Diseases Ordinance and subsequent Gazette Notification published on the 15th of October 2020 and obtained the court order.
