Colombo (News 1st); President Gotabaya Rajapaksa instructed officials on Thursday (05) to strictly monitor the self-quarantine process enforced to prevent the spread of COVID-19 after the Quarantine Curfew is lifted.

According to the President's Media Division, approximately 84,000 people from 31,457 families across the island have been placed in quarantine.

In the Western Province alone 40,676 people from 13,911 families have been placed in quarantine.

The President had stressed the need to enforce streamlined monitoring of those placed in quarantine after the curfew is lifted.

In addition, the President instructed officials to pay close attention to areas from where COVID-19 cases as well as their close contacts are reported, adding if necessary, locations placed in isolation should remain closed until further notice.

Trade activities across economic centers must take place under strict supervision while adhering to health guidelines and conducting PCR tests, said the President.
