COVID-19 infiltrates Welikada Prison; several inmates test positive

Colombo (News 1st); 02 male inmates, 04 female inmates & a Prison officer at the Welikada Prison have tested positive for COVID-19.
Commissioner of Prisons Administration/Rehabilitation and Skill Development Chandana Ekanayake speaking to News 1st said these cases were detected during random PCR tests.
The COVID-19 positive cases were moved to the Welikanda Quarantine Facility in order to separate them from the rest of the prison, he added.
The prison officer was moved to IDH for treatment.
All inmates at the female ward at the Welikada Prison were subject to PCR tests, he added.
In addition, the inmates who shared the cells with the 02 male inmates have been separated in order to minimize contact with the rest of the prison.
