Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lanka Police said multiple police teams were deployed to arrest Ex-Minister Rishad Bathiudeen, whose location is currently unknown.
On Tuesday (13) evening a Police Officer attached to his security detail was arrested and released by the court on bail on Wednesday (14).
On Tuesday (13) Attorney General Dappula De Livera had directed the Acting IGP to obtain a warrant from Court and Arrest MP Rishad Bathuideen and two others on charges of Criminal Misappropriation of Public Funds and Violation of Election Laws with regard to the Transportation of IDPs in CTB buses to vote at the 2019 Presidential Election, offenses punishable under the public property act.
The Ex-Minister's accountant Alagarathnam Manoranjan was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department in Kirulapone and was remanded until the 26th of October by the Fort Magistrate's Court.
On Tuesday (13) evening CID personnel who were en-route to arrest Rishad Bathiudeen seized two of his vehicles and arrested a Police Constable in his security detail as well as two drivers.
The trio was arrested in Wellawatte for the illegal possession of firearms.
The two drivers were remanded until the 28th of October and the Police Constable was released on a personal bail of Rs. 500,000/-.
In addition, the Fort Magistrate's Court barred Rishad Bathiudeen and Mohamed Yaseen Samsudeen, a Project Director at the Ministry of Resettlement, from traveling overseas.
Commenting on the arrest of the Police Constable, Police Spokesperson DIG Ajith Rohana said when a Police Officer is on duty and if he assists anyone to evade the law, he would be considered as an accessory to the crime.
He said Sri Lanka Police discovered two pistols, 04 magazines, and 48 bullets in the vehicles seized in Wellawatte on Tuesday (13).
