COLOMBO (News 1st): Those who visited the areas of Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, and Veyangoda in the past 07 days are urged to immediately consult a doctor in the event, they show symptoms of fever.
"We kindly inform all Sri Lankans, to be watchful at this moment. The next 72 are very important. We do not know where else the virus is at the moment in Sri Lanka. Therefore, it is the responsibility of each and every individual to immediately consult a doctor, if anyone shows fever-like symptoms. You must report to a doctor immediately without hiding if you have any health discomfort related to COVID-19," Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of Sri Lanka Army, informed the general public.
The Army Commander requested people to volunteer and inform the relevant health authorities if there is any breathing difficulties or COVID-19 related symptoms.
"Although we have enforced quarantine curfew to Minuwangoda, Divulapitiya, and Veyangoda police jurisdictions, there would have been people who had come to this area in the last 07 days and we also have reports confirming that some of the workers at the apparel factory had met people from other areas excluding the areas under quarantine," Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, who heads the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) told News 1st on Monday (Oct. 05).
The Army Commander further said, "If one of the workers is to test positive in the coming days, there is a chance the virus could have spread to other areas as well. Therefore, irrespective of which area you live, all Sri Lankans should take 100% precautions".
"It is your duty and responsibility not to get infected with the virus. For that remember to wear your masks and follow all health protocols as informed by the authorities," the Army Commander emphasized.
