Lawyer & 04 others arrested for falsifying documents to claim suicide bomber's property

Colombo (News 1st); The Criminal Investigations Department arrested a lawyer and four other people for falsifying documents and deeds to claim a multi-million rupee property owned by Mohamed Ibrahim Inshaf Ahamed, the suicide bomber responsible for the explosion as the Cinnamon Grand Hotel in Colombo.

Colombo Additional Magistrate Priyantha Liyanage ordered for the suspects to be remanded until the 28th of September.

The Criminal Investigations Department informed the court, it conduct an investigation after it was informed of suspicious individuals visiting the property located in Colpetty adding the suspects had claimed they purchased the property for Rs. 100 Million from Mohamed Ibrahim Inshaf Ahamed.

However, further investigations revealed the deed containing the signature of the lawyer dated the 28th of February 2019, if a fake.

The CID informed the court the deed was in fact registered on the 02nd of May 2020 and believed the suspects were assisted by several individuals in the Department of Land Registration to commit fraud.
