Colombo (News 1st); The Court of Appeal on Monday (07) granted permission for Premalal Jayasekera, who was sentenced to death, to attend Parliament sittings.
An interim order also issued by the court stating the permission which was granted will be in effect until the petition filed by Premalal Jayasekera is taken up for examination and a verdict is delivered.
The Court of Appeal granting permission to examine the petition ordered the Welikada Prison Superintendent and the Secretary-General of Parliament, who were named as respondents, to appear in court on the 29th of September.
The Court of Appeal said as the Parliamentary Seat of the petitioner was not challenged, as an elected Public Representative he has the privilege of taking oaths in Parliament.
On the 31st of July, Premalal Jayasekera was sentenced to death by the Ratnapura High Court as he was found guilty on the indictments of shooting dead one person and injuring two others.
