CA informs District Returning Officers not to take action on 38 UNP Local Government members

Colombo (News 1st); The Court of Appeal on Wednesday (02) informed the District Returning Officers to refrain from taking any future course of action with regard to 38 United National Party Local Government Representatives.

The order was made after the Court of Appeal considered the petitions filed by the Local Government members against expelling them from the UNP and terminating their UNP membership for the sole reason of supporting the Samagi Jana Balavegaya.

The 38 petitioners requested fro an Interim Injunction be granted preventing them from being expelled from the UNP.

Further, they requested an order to prevent the issuance of a gazette which states they were stripped of their party membership.

The petitions were filed by 38 Local Government members representing the Colombo Municipal Council and several other Local Government bodies were taken up at the Court of Appeal in the presence of Court of Appeal President A. H. M. D. Nawaz and Sobitha Rajakaruna.

Further consideration of the petitions will take place on the 09th of September.
