Colombo (News 1st); The Government Analyst's Department said the two workers arrested by Sri Lanka Police for drug possession were not attached to the department's narcotics division.

In a statement, the Government Analyst's Department said the two workers in question were minor staffers and will be subject to a separate disciplinary inquiry by the department.

The Government Analyst's Department went on to note, the authorities were requested to assign a special group of detectives to conduct a complete investigation on the two workers adding the administration of the Government Analyst's Department would provide its fullest support towards the investigation.

It added drug parcels sent to the Government Analyst's Department as evidence are moved to the department and stored there following the most secure and protective methods.

It went on to note, therefore it is impossible for anyone to swap or change the material sent to the department adding a tight security process is followed from the moment a parcel arrives, to the moment it leaves the department premises following the completion of tests.

The Government Analyst's Department responsibly states there is no possibility for anyone at the department to engage in long term drug trafficking operations using the drug parcels sent for testing.
