COLOMBO (News1st): A fire that erupted at a centuries old residence of state minister Jeewan Thondaman in Kotmale was doused, police said on Monday.
The fire had erupted at around 3 am at the house that is believed to have been constructed in 1883, at the Waverton Estate in Kotmale.
However, no injuries were reported.
Firefighters from the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council, police officers of the Kotmale station and area residents had doused the fire, police noted.
The traditional furniture of the house had been destroyed in the fire. The value of the damage, however, has not been ascertained as yet.
The government analysts department has commenced an investigation into the incident.
Senthil Thondaman, a coordinating officer of the Prime Minister and State Minister Jeevan Thondaman had arrived at the location to inspect the situation.
