COLOMBO (News 1st): In the wake of the controversial satellite images of two locations in Hambantota, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo on Monday (Aug 10) said the initial plan was to construct the buildings to form the word CHINA, the symbol of a heart and SLK at the location depicting "CHINA SW". Several local newspapers on Tuesday (Aug 11) reported further on the controversy surrounding the satellite images of two locations in Hambantota. According to newspaper reports, the satellite view of google maps shows several buildings located near the Hambantota port constructed in a manner depicting the terms "CHINA SW" as seen from an aerial view. Another satellite image shows a building constructed near the Mattala International Airport depicting the term "CHEC", which stands for China Harbour Engineering Company. Further, a building constructed nearby portrays the shape of a plane. The initial plan was extended as the number of buildings was not adequate for the respective institutions, the Chinese Embassy in Colombo said. The tweet further read, "A story of development & love. Best wishes to #HambantotaPort."
