Colombo (News 1st); Attorney General Dappula De Livera has directed the Acting Inspector General of Police to obtain a warrant from court, arrest, and produce Kurunegala Mayor Thushara Sanjeewa, the Municipal Commissioner of Kurunegala, the Municipal Engineer of Kurunegala and two others.
State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Coordinating Officer to the Attorney General said the direction was given with regard to the demolition of a building in Kurunegala with archaeological value, which is believed to date back to the era of King Buvainekabahu.
The Attorney General had instructed the Acting IGP to file charges under the Antiquities Ordinance & Public Property Act.
