Municipal Councillor assaulted after SLPP meeting

COLOMBO (News1st): A municipal councillor was hospitalized following an assaulted after a meeting attended by Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna members on Sunday. Ajith Prasanna, the Hambantota Councillor who was assaulted, alleged that a group supporting the Hambantota Mayor had carried out the attack. "We were given a t-shirt reading Team Eraj (the Mayor) there. But we refused to wear the t-shirts. That group had retaliated by attacking us after the meeting," Prasanna said. A supporter claimed to have been threatened by the group at the hospital. "Who are they? How can they threaten us like this?," the supporter queried.
