Heavy falls exceeding 100 mm over several areas: Met Department

COLOMBO (News 1st): Heavy falls exceeding 100mm could be expected over the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, the Department of Meteorology said on Sunday (Aug 2). According to the Met Department, several spells of showers are also likely in the North-Western province. "Wind speed in Southern province, Polonnaruwa, Mannar, Trincomalee and Matale districts could increase up to 60 kmph at times," Met Department's forecast said. Coastal inundation is also likely along the coast extending from Beruwala to Hambantota via Galle; and requested residents in these areas to be vigilant.
