Record 175 COVID-19 patients recover on Tuesday

COLOMBO (News 1st): On Tuesday, a record number of 175 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals, following recovery, raising the total number of recoveries to 2296, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva - the Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Army Commander said. Thus, Tuesday (July 28) marked the highest number of COVID 19 recoveries recorded in Sri Lanka on a single day. "The COVID-19 cluster at the Kandakadu Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre has been brought under control," Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva further said on Wednesday (July 29). The Army Commander went onto note that there is no community spread of COVID-19 in Sri Lanka, adding the general public must remain vigilant and follow health instructions in order to eradicate COVID-19 from the country. Meanwhile, five new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in Sri Lanka on Tuesday. According to the Government Information Department, of the new cases - four are returnees from the United Arab Emirates and another is an inmate at the Senapura Rehabilitation Centre. As such, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka has risen to 2810. There are 503 active COVID-19 patients currently receiving treatment, according to the latest data published by the Epidemiology Unit at the Ministry of Health.
