Colombo (News 1st); The Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka is currently on strike as a mark of protest to the Quarantine Regulation Gazette, which was issued recently but failed to empower the PHIs.
On Friday (24) PHIs reported-in sick as they intensified their trade union action.
Chairperson of the Public Health Inspectors Union of Sri Lanka Upul Rohana said the situation is such when the PHIs are engaged in a struggle, the Ministry of Health is attempting to solve the issue through dialogue with the Government Medical Officers Association.
The PHI Union chief slammed the Ministry of Health for such conduct adding the matter was discussed with the Health Minister on multiple occasions, before it became a serious issue.
The Sri Lanka Association of Government Medical Laboratory Technologists alleges the Health Ministry is currently only focused on meeting the requirements of their close associates.
Joint Postal Trade Union (JPTU) Convener Chinthaka Bandara said the Elections Commission must intervene to resolve this issue if he truly wishes to have a successful election with the assistance of the public sector.
He warned, if this situation continues, the public sector would suffer a collapse during the election.
