Sri Lanka Police to deploy around 75,000 officers to ensure quarantine regulations during 2020 Parliamentary Elections

COLOMBO (News 1st): Sri Lanka Police will deploy 75,000 officers including Police Special Task Force for election duty, in line with the upcoming 2020 Parliamentary Elections, the Police Headquarters said on Monday (June 29). In addition around 10,000 officers from the Sri Lanka Civil Security Force will also be deployed during the election period, according to Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Jaliya Senaratne. "As the upcoming election will be conducted in compliance with quarantine regulations, Sri Lanka Police is taking necessary steps based on discussions with the National Election Commission," SSP Jaliya Senaratne said on Monday. He further emphasized, "It is the responsibility of Sri Lanka Police to ensure that the 2020 General Election is held in compliance of quarantine regulations," adding the Acting Inspector General of Police has already issued instructions to all police stations, in this regard. SSP Jaliya Senaratne went onto note that these instructions will be updated in the future, based on health and election guidelines issued by the Director-General of Health Services and the National Election Commission respectively.
