Colombo (News 1st); The Criminal Investigations Department appointed a special team of detectives led by an Assistant Superintendent of Police to probe the recent statement made by Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias ‘Karuna Amman’.
Police Spokesperson SSP Jaliya Senaratne speaking to News 1st said the team is already in the Eastern Province and recording evidence for their investigation.
"In addition to Karuna Amman, statements are to be recorded from several other people", said SSP Senaratne adding the detectives will focus on gathering material evidence to produce in court.
On Tuesday (23) Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias ‘Karuna Amman’ informed the Criminal Investigations Department via an attorney, he is unable to appear at the CID to provide a statement as he had fallen ill.
On Wednesday (24) multiple factions filed complaints with the Criminal Investigations Department and Police Headquarters on Karuna Amman's statement.
On Friday, the 19th of June, Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan, the Leader of the Tamil United Freedom Front said he killed 2000 to 3000 Sri Lankan soldiers in one night at Elephant Pass when in the LTTE, as opposed to the number of lives claimed by COVID-19 in Sri Lanka.
He went on to note “Karuna Amman is dangerous than the Corona Virus”.
Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan alias ‘Karuna Amman’, a one time Deputy Minister in the Mahinda Rajapaksa Government, has come under fire for his recent statement.
