A workshop was held for the Parliamentary Election candidates of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya under the patronage of Leader of SJB - Sajith Premadasa.
Leaders of all parties constituting the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, professionals representing various sectors and the candidates of the party attended the workshop.
Speaking at the workshop, Former Minister - Imthiaz Bakeer Markar spoke about the crisis the UNP is facing at the moment.
He said that UNP has passed a dark era in the past and that they have been unable to produce a leader for this country for the last three decades.
He said that the time is ripe for the UNP to get their message across to the people.
"What happened after 1994? Reawaken your memories. We selected our leaders by a show of hands at the Sugathadasa Stadium. Internal democracy was destroyed. Babies were brought to the forefront. It was the people who were selected by the leader who rose to the top. Ultimately, young individuals who won the praise of the public left the party." said the Former Minister.
Adding further, the Former Minister said that not only the youth but they have also lost hundreds of Parliamentarians and Ministers.
Former Minister said that the internal democracy was destroyed within the UNP and party must carry forth a message to the people.
"Why was the Samagi Jana Balawegaya formed? The people are confused. They do not have faith in politics. We have the vision that can restore this faith." Former Minister said.
