COLOMBO (News1st): The foreign ministry has said that it has dispatched 2000 packs of dry rations to be distributed among Sri Lankans stranded in the Maldives.
"These individual support kits...comprise 18 items which include basic commodities such as instant food packs and sanitary items and also much-needed medicines," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The dry ration packs would be distributed mainly among at least 2000 Sri Lankans in Greater Male, where a red alert has been issued for the spread of COVID-19.
"Approximately 7000 Sri Lankans are current seeking repatriation from the Maldives," the statement noted.
The Maldives has agreed to conduct PCR tests for COVID-19 on Sri Lankans before they leave the country, according to the foreign ministry.
