Colombo (News 1st); The Attorney General had directed the Director of the Colombo Crimes Division to obtain a warrant and arrest the Former OIC of the Welikada Police Station and present ASP Sudath Asmadala for fabricating false evidence in the case filed against Former MP Patali Champika Ranawaka for causing an accident.

State Counsel Nishara Jayaratne, the Co-Ordinating Officer to the Attorney General speaking to News 1st said investigations revealed the Former OIC had instructed not to record the two eye-witnesses claiming it was Patali Champika Ranawaka behind the wheel at the time.

She added in 2016 and 2017, a total of 16 further reports were filed with the court over the incident by the Welikada Police and none of the reports contained the eye-witness accounts.

The Attorney General's Department even before the investigations were over, ASP Asmadala had filed a charge sheet against Dilum Thusitha Kumara and prevented Patali Champika Ranawaka from being named in the charges.

The AGs Department said it is clear ASP Asmadala committed offenses under the Penal Code and conspired to commit the offenses with Patali Champika Ranawka and Dilum Thusitha Kumara.
