Time frame to file "Special Leave to Appeal" at the SC, announced.

Colombo (News 1st): An Extraordinary Gazette has been issued specifying the period for the application of "Special Leave to Appeal" at the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court remained closed since the 17th March due to the lockdown style curfew that was imposed. The Gazette says the new rule has been titled as the Supreme Court (Temporary Provisions) Rules, 2020. As per this new rule, the six week period to appeal for cases at the Supreme Court will begin on the 18th of May The Extraordinary Gazette reads:
Notwithstanding anything to the contrary in rule 7 of the Supreme Court Rules 1990 published in the Gazette Extraordinary No. 665/32 of June 7, 1991, the period beginning with March 16, 2020 and ending on May 18, 2020 shall not be taken into account in computing the period of six weeks referred to in rule 7.
Rule number 7 says: (of the Supreme Court Rules 1990)
Every such application shall be made within 6 weeks of the order, judgement, decree or the sentence of the Court of Appeal in respect of whih special leave to appeal is sought
