41 Military operated quarantine facilities Sri Lanka to combat COVID-19

Colombo (News 1st); Sri Lankan Armed Forces are operating 41 quarantine facilities across the country and 5133 people are undergoing quarantine at those facilities.

Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Lt. General Shavendra Silva said those who test negative to PCR tests would be released from these facilities and thus far 5194 people were released from quarantine facilities.

On Thursday morning, the Abhayapura Village in Polonnaruwa, which was declared as a no-go zone following the detention of COVID-19 cases, was re-opened.

Lt. General Shavendra Silva said 29 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday and 24 of them are sailors attached to the Sri Lanka Navy's Welisara Naval Complex.

One person who was undergoing quarantine at the Palai Quarantine Facility, from Bandaranaike Mawatha Colombo 12 tested positive for the virus on Wednesday while three others who contracted the virus are people who had contact with the infected sailors.

The other person who tested positive had associated a person who was a close contact of a sailor who had tested positive COVID-19.
