Colombo (News 1st); A total of 31 people tested positive for the Coronavirus on Tuesday in Sri Lanka.
Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva speaking to News 1st said 08 gallant navy sailors who were on leave were among those who tested positive for COVID-19 yesterday.
He said another 13 Navy Sailors from the Welisara Naval Complex also tested positive for the coronavirus in addition to 06 family members of navy personnel.
Further, three medical staff attending to the facilities at quarantine facilities tested positive for COVID-19, and a relative of one of the staff members contracted the virus.
Accordingly, the total number of people who tested positive for the Coronavirus in Sri Lanka stands at 619.
As of this morning, 144 Sri Lanka Navy Sailors from the Welisara Naval Complex had tested positive for the COVID-19 and in total 223 Sri Lanka Navy Sailors tested positive for the virus.
Further, 173 first and second contacts of the sailors who were on leave were shifted to the Sri Lanka Army operated quarantine facility in Vavuniya and the Sri Lanka Navy operated quarantine facility in Mihinthale.
On Tuesday alone 452 people were admitted to the quarantine facilities in the country and as of Wednesday morning, there are 3363 people undergoing observation at quarantine centers while 4605 people were released from those facilities.
