226 sailors contracted Coronavirus: Army Commander

226 sailors tested positive for COVID-19 & 3609 people undergoing quarantine

Colombo (News 1st); 226 sailors from the Sri Lanka Navy tested positive for COVID-19 and 147 of them were detected from the Welisara Naval Complex and the other 79 were sailors who had gone on leave.

Acting Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva said 184 people who associated the gallant sailors of the Sri Lanka Navy, who contracted the virus, were taken away to the Pompemadu Quarantine Facility. He went on to note 69 people were taken away to the Damminna Quarantine Facility after several people from Narahenpita tested positive for COVID-19. Accordingly, 3609 people are undergoing quarantine across 32 quarantine facilities operated by the Armed Forces. The Army Commander said 4659 people were released from quarantine facilities operated by the Armed Forces, following the completion of the mandatory quarantine period.
