Colombo (News 1st); 11 other people tested positive for COVID-19 today, according to Director General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe.
All of them are from Bandaranaike Mawatha in Colombo and were subject to quarantine and 05 of them were detected from over 100 samples.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe said 1142 PCR tests, a record high for a single day, were carried out yesterday.
He said following talks with the Chairman of the University Grants Commission, it was decided to provide PCR testing units to UGC laboratories to increase PCR testing in the country.
In addition, a laboratory is being constructed in Mulleriyawa to perform 1000 PCR tests daily, funded by the Asian Development Bank.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe went on to note, the Government of Sri Lanka would grant permission to produce swabs locally, to facilitate testing in the country.
