COLOMBO (News1st): Six foreign nationals nabbed with a large haul of narcotics off Sri Lankan shores, will be subjected to legal action after their quarantine period a navy spokesman said on Thursday.
On April 10, four Pakistani nationals and two Iranian nationals had been arrested along with 280 kilos of heroin and 45 kilos of methamphetamine also known as 'Ice'.
"They will be under the observation of the Navy. After that if they are cleared from COVID-19, they will be produced before courts," navy spokesman Isuru Suriyabandara said.
He added that the suspects are undergoing quarantine at the premises of the Tangalle Remand Prison.
The navy on April 1, had nabbed nine Pakistani nationals with 605 kilos of methamphetamine and 579 kilos of ketamine, valued at over Rs 6 billion, 835 kilometres off the southern coast of the island.
Statistics show that 279.6 kilos of heroin and 793.7 kilos of methamphetamine have been seized by the Navy so far this year.
