PM Instructs IGP to remedy obstructions on transporting food items

Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the acting Inspector General of Police to prevent difficulties or obstructions to transporting food items, according to a press release by Media Secretary to the Prime Minister. "Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa instructed Acting IGP Chandana Wickremaratne that while curfew should be strictly enforced during the times when it is in force, vehicles transporting food items including vegetables, fruits and coconuts to all economic centers, including the Manning Market, should be given the necessary permission" according to the release. The Prime Minister has issued the instructions "to ensure that food items reach the market from the producer without difficulty so that the mechanism to supply consumers with essential food items would continue in an orderly manner and without interruption", it added. The Prime Minister also called on the general public "not to treat the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic lightly and to assist the program being implemented by the government to control it by following the medical advice"
