Fishermen in Mullathivu arrested for possessing rotten fish

COLOMBO (News 1st): Fishermen were arrested in Maathalan Mullathivu by the Navy along with 4007 kgs of fish in their possession. Fisheries Officials in Mulathivu said that 29951 kgs of the fish in the possession of these suspects were rotten. A tense situation arose between the fishermen and the fisheries officials. The fishermen who were produced before the acting Magistrate by the Mullathivu Police were released on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000. The Magistrate who ordered for the rotten stock of fish to be buried ordered for the remaining stock of fish to be auctioned.
