COLOMBO (News 1st):- The government has urged the public to refrain from unnecessary stock piling of essential items such as food as there is no shortage of such items in the country. Issuing a statement, the President's Media Division stated that arrangements have been made for the distribution of vegetables and other essential goods without any delay. On a telephone conversation about the situation, Director of the Consumer Affairs and Information Division of the Consumer Affairs Authority, Asela Bandara said;
"Although the curfew is in effect, essential goods are being supplied to supermarkets, Sathosa outlets, and other stores, including those in farther areas. Therefore, I feel that the consumers will not have to experience any difficulties. The people will be able to purchase the required goods."
He further continued to say;
"However, we recommend the public to avoid purchasing excessive amounts of essential items. If that happens, then the other customers will not be able to meet their requirements. Since this situation will exist only for a few days, there is no need to stockpile goods sufficient for several months. We saw that people had panicked when purchasing goods from supermarkets. Do not make such a situation happen."
