Colombo (News 1st) - The Supreme Court today ordered the Attorney General, to immediately submit a report, on how the farmers who were affected by the Uma-Oya development project were compensated.
This order was issued after taking into account, the facts presented by Attorney-at-law Ranganath Dabare, who is representing the farmers.
Attorney-at-law Ranganath Dabare, today pointed out in court, that more than 1,000 farmers suffered losses and were treated unjustly, as the government failed to pay the compensation assessed by the Department of Agrarian Development.
A three-member bench consisting of Justices Priyantha Jayawardena, Justice P. Padman Soorasena and Justice Yasantha Kodagoda, ordered the case to be taken up again on the 20th of July.
