Health officials to launch 'Mosquito Control Week' to curb the spread of Dengue

Colombo (News 1st) - The National Dengue Control Unit has declared a 'Mosquito Control Week' from the 11th to the 17th of March in a bid to curb the spread of dengue. According to the Epidemiology Unit, the number of dengue-related cases during the first two months of this year has shown a growth of 75.45% when compared to the first two months of last year, with figures standing at 16,345. Director of the National Dengue Control Unit, Dr. Aruna Jayasekara told News 1st that the week-long Mosquito Control Week campaign would be carried out across the country. He noted that special attention would be drawn towards the Western Province which has been identified as a high-risk area. The inspection of houses, schools, and other potential dengue breeding sites, along with clean-up campaigns will be implemented during the special week. These activities would be spearheaded by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the National Dengue Control Unit, the tri-forces, and the Police.
