Colombo (News 1st) - The Presidential Commission appointed to investigate incidents of political victimization of public sector officials issued notice on the Attorney General, to submit all documentation with the AG and the Criminal Investigations Department relating to the case on the abduction and enforced disappearances of 11 youth in 2008 and 2009.
Notice was issued, following a complaint made by Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda citing he was a victim of political persecution during the Government of Good Governance.
Karannagoda appearing at the commission for the second day testified to claim it was Former US ambassador to the United Nations Samantha Power who raised allegations of war crimes against Sri Lanka at the United Nations Human Rights Council. He alleged Former Minister Mangala Samaraweera had assisted her to raise the allegations adding it was in such a backdrop Samantha Power was the Chief Guest at the event to mark 30 years of Parliamentary Politics of Samaraweera.
Admiral of the Fleet Wasantha Karannagoda added a devious plan was hatched to arrest him for the simple means of pleasing Samantha Power. Karannagoda alleged, the Government of Good Governance took measures to implicate him, the complainant, by acquitting the first suspect in the case on abductions and enforced disappearances, Ex -Navy Lieutenant Commander Sampath Munasinghe.
He added Ex-Navy Spokesman Rear Admiral DKP Dassanayake was arrested in 2017 to simply please then visiting UN Special Rapporteur on human rights and counter-terrorism, Ben Emmerson.
Taking matters in to account, the Chairperson of the Presidential Commission decided to order the Attorney General to submit all reports and documentation relating to the case.
