Police officer arrested while soliciting bribe of Rs. 25,000

COLOMBO (News 1st):- A police officer who obtained a bribe of Rs. 25,000 was arrested by the Bribery Commission. The police said that the bribe was for not enacting legal action against a lorry that was transporting timber. The officer who had agreed for a bribe of Rs. 25,000, had obtained a part of the amount on the same day and was attempting to obtain the other half yesterday (February 15) when he was arrested. The police officer who was arrested in Welladura is attached to the Kahawatte police. The suspect was remanded till February 28th after being produced before the Pelmadulla Magistrate Courts.
