Over 3000 lives claimed by motor accidents in 2019

Colombo (News 1st): The Sri Lanka Medical Association noted that the deaths caused by motor accidents have increased. Its Chairman Professor Indika Karunathilake noted that five years ago nearly 2800 people died due to motor accidents each year, however, currently, the death toll has surpassed 3000 people a year. He added that during the last year (2019) over 3300 people died as a result of motor accidents. He pointed out that every year around Rs. 10 Billion is being spent on treating those injured due to motor accidents. Professor Karunathilake noted that a decision should be reached to control this situation.
