Appeal dismissed - Case against Ex-Magistrate Thilina Gamage to go ahead

Colombo (News 1st) - The Court of Appeal today rejected an appeal filed by Former Magistrate Thilina Gamage seeking an injunction order to prevent a case filed with the Colombo High Court against him from being taken up. The case relates to the illegal possession of an elephant calf. The Court of Appeal refused to issue notice on the respondents named in the appeal. In his application, Thilina Gamage noted the case at the Colombo High Court was filed against him on political grounds and requested it be prevented from being taken up for trial and he be released. He requested for the case not be taken up in the presence of Colombo High Court Judge Gihan Kulatunga and the matter be transferred to another High Court. The application was considered by Appeal Court Judges Mahinda Samayawardena and Priyantha Fernando who thereafter rejected the application.
