COLOMBO (News 1st):- The Executive Committee meeting of the Podujana Eksath Peramuna was held at around 6:35 pm today (January 30).
General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Dayasiri Jayasekara speaking to the media said:
"We arrived at a decision to adopt the Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Alliance and its constitution as a replacement to that of the Podujana Eksath Peramuna. Accordingly, we expect to send that constitution to the Chairman of the National Election Commission to obtain his approval in due course. The Sri Lanka Nidahas Podujana Alliance has already been formed. Therefore, the SLPP, SLFP, and other parties will join hands and do the needful concerning the alliance. We hope to finalize those arrangements at the earliest."
Senior Vice President of the SLFP, Nimal Siripala de Silva also speaking on the matter said:
"13 political parties now constitute this alliance. According to the constitution of the alliance, the SLPP will receive 51 percent of the power in the Executive Committee while the SLFP will receive 31 percent. The other parties will receive equal powers. The positions of Secretary, Treasurer, and Deputy Chairman of the alliance will belong to the SLPP. There are joint Chairmen. They are former President Maithripala Sirisena and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. There is no problem with regard to the symbol. We have to first form the alliance."
