Restricting Travel from China to SL
Colombo (News 1st): People from 54 cities in China will NOT be permitted to travel to Sri Lanka without prior approval, the Immigration and Emigration Department said today.
All passengers flying into the country from China are escorted to a special terminal preventing them from coming in to contact with others, where they are screened by medical teams.
The Sri Lankan Government suspended granting "On Arrival Visa" for Chinese travelers after a Chinese tourist was confirmed positive of the Novel Corona virus last evening.
Director-General of Health Services Dr. Anil Jasinghe said at the Jaffna International Airport, formerly the Palaly Airport, passengers are tested by medical staff individuals due to the low volume of passengers arriving at the airport.
Further, he said Sri Lanka follows a strict protocol on anyone seas-sick and brought to the Colombo Harbor adding a patient is only removed from a vessel after examined by a doctor aboard the vessel.
Passengers Only
The Bandaranaike International Airport remains open only to passengers as of six this morning, as the government adds more measures to prevent the spread of the coronavirus which had affected many countries.
All others including family members, would not be allowed to enter the BIA premises as a precautionary measure.
Returning Sri Lankans
According to the Health Minister, all Sri Lankan students who arrive in the country from Wuhan, China will be moved to the Diyathalawa Camp for a period of two weeks for observation and treatment.
137 Sri Lankan students in China pursuing Higher Education will be airlifted tonight.
Acting Sri Lankan Ambassador to China K. Yoganathan speaking to News 1st said 204 students were already airlifted to Sri Lanka.
He said the Sri Lankan Mission is in close contact with the students and the airlines to facilitate the process.
He stressed the Sri Lankan Embassy is operating 24/7 to support Sri Lankans living in China who wish to return to the country.

The 01st confirmed case - The latest
A 43-year-old Chinese woman who tested positive for symptoms of the Coronavirus yesterday, becoming the first confirmed case in the island nation, is receiving treatment in a quarantined ward at the Infectious Diseases Hospital.
Speaking to reporters, Dr. Anil Jasinghe the Director-General of Health Services said the Chinese woman is showing positive signs to the treatment being administered.
The Ministry of Health said an investigation was launched to ascertain where she went during her stay in Sri Lanka and who she associated with.
Chief Epidemiologist, Dr. Sudath Samaraweera speaking to News 1st said, the people who she was in contact with would be subject to close observation for a period of two weeks.
In addition, the Medical Research Institute is testing the samples of 06 people suspected of catching the coronavirus.
Dr. Anil Jasinghe added the Medical Research Institute in Borella was upgraded to conduct the PCR test to detect the Coronavirus.
