Colombo (News 1st): Dr Nalaka Godahewa, a member of the Board of Directors of the Government of Sri Lanka, expressed his views on the criticism against the committee appointed for the board of directors, including the chairmen of state institutions.
He noted that the committee was not an appointing body and its responsibility was to look into the merits and make a recommendation. He added that the appointing authority can be the president, perhaps the minister and this is decided by the statute.
Godahewa noted that they see in some instances appointments that were not recommended by the committee had also been appointed and there have been shortcomings. However, he said, on the other hand, when people are sensitive to information from time to time, they have seen how the appointment authority has changed those decisions as well. He said even though they are not directly responsible or involved in those matters they are happy about this.
Dr Charitha Herath presented his ideas at a media briefing that was held at the party headquarters of the Podujana Peramuna.
"As you know in the field of journalism, the whole country is now under the digital space. There are some positive aspects of it as well as negative things. The problems of the media community should be solved in the form of a discussion, seminar or intervention. His excellency the President made it clear to the media that the media should not be unduly pressurized."
