Colombo (News 1st) - The reaping of paddy harvests for the Maha season has commenced.
According to the Duminda Priyadarshana, the Director of the Hector Kobbekaduwa Agrarian Research and Training Institute, farmers in Batticaloa have already commenced reaping their harvests. He added that farmers in a number of districts including Ampara will begin reaping their harvest by the end of the month.
Priyadarshana stated that he expects the price of rice to come down as the harvested paddy enters the market.
Due to the high price of rice, the current administration imposed a maximum retail price of Rs 98 on Samba and Nadu rice. However, there are multiple varieties of rice that are priced over Rs 100.
