Sri Lanka Army to investigate illegal sand mining

Colombo (News 1st): Co-Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Ramesh Pathirana said the Cabinet has approved a proposal to handover complaints regarding illegal sand and soil transport to the Sri Lanka Army. The minister said this at a press conference held today to inform the Cabinet decisions. The decision was taken due to complaints received from the public regarding transport sand and soil without a license. The Minister said that the proposal was submitted to the Cabinet by the Minister of Environment. According to the proposal, the Sri Lanka Army will be investigating all complaints related to excavation of sand and soil as well as erosion caused due to such excavations.
