COLOMBO (News 1st) - A member of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha was abducted this morning from the very premises of the local government body and was released later in the afternoon several miles away.
The Mawanella Pradeshiya sabha was due to convene at 10:00 this morning.
Council member representing the National Peoples Party, Chandana Ruwan Kumara was abducted when he entered the council premises.
Subsequently, at around 12:00 noon today, the Pradeshiya Sabha member was released in the Hingula area in Mawanella. The council member then lodged a complaint at the police in this regard.
PS member Chandana Ruwan Kumara stated that the abductors threatened him at gun-point saying that they wanted to see his family house and when they reached his family house, nobody was there.
He added that he was threatened not to go to the council and they left him at Hingula.
K.G.Piyatissa, Opposition Leader of the Mawanella Pradeshiya Saba noted that there had been no abduction it was a personal dispute between the PS member in question and another person.
He further added that the PS member has promised a youth, employment in Ceylon Petroleum Corporation in return for money. He added that this youth had met him and had agreed to solve this issue.
The Mawanella Police are conducting an investigation and arrests are yet to be made.
