COLOMBO (News 1st):- A statement made by Retired DIG Ravi Waidyalankara to a newspaper stating that the police FCID was subjected to political pressure, dominated the political arena today (October 26).
Speaking on the matter, UPFA MP Ranjith Siyambalapitiya says that based on what Ravi Widyalankara said, the FCID operated through Temple Trees and all complaints were received from Temple Trees which were operated by a group of UNP ministers. Siyambalapitiya said that another name was mentioned and that it was reported a candidate contesting the upcoming presidential election was also a part of this. He added that the public should rethink this point when casting their votes.
Meanwhile, UNP MP Manusha Nanayakkara says:
"The complaints received by the FCID are those that are received by the complaints section. They have the right to ask the FCID to expedite the process as well. They concealed these complaints. Ravi Waidyalankara intentionally ignored some complaints. This is why the perpetrators are still not punished because they did not look into this properly. Perpetrators are still out in the open, because of officers like Ravi Waidyalankara at the FCID and people like Wijayadasa Rajapaksa in the ministry. It's being reported, that Rs. 200 million was credited to Ravi Waidyalankara's personal bank account after he was appointed as the head of the FCID. How did he receive such a large amount of money? Whose case did they dismiss to obtain this money? Whose file did they hide to obtain the Rs. 200 million? We want answers. Those who obtained large bribes to cover up cases, now come forward and try to wash their sins away. They have started a laundry service. We remind everyone, Wijayadasa Rajapaksa is behind all of this. He protected all the perpetrators"
