COLOMBO (News 1st):- The leader of the Ceylon Workers Congress Arumugam Thondaman pledged his support to Gotabaya Rajapaksa today (October 13). He pledged his support to the presidential candidate while speaking after the national assembly of the Ceylon Workers Congress held in Kotagala, Hatton today (October 13).
He says that the party's national assembly that was chaired by the party secretary Shiva Raja unanimously decided to support Gotabaya Rajapaksa and that 32 demands made by them have been accepted and promised to be included in their manifesto. He added that these demands will be focused upon during a specific time period after their appointment.
According to Minister P. Digambaran, Arumugam Thondaman pledging his support to Gotabaya Rajapaksa is not a new development.
"The SLPP and the SLFP are basically the same political party. The number of votes they will obtain this time, will be similar to what they obtained last time. Though they now identify themselves as different parties, at one point they were all members of the SLFP. Therefore, this is not an issue to us"
He went onto say - "The Ceylon Workers Congress was a contestant last time. They too were a part of this party, and obtained 175,000 votes from the Maskeliya electorate. We have worked hard for the people. Sajith Premadasa will obtain more votes, and win. I believe Sajith Premadasa does not have to hold any meetings. The people have already decided to vote for him. "
