Temporary ID for November Elections

Colombo (News 1st): Individuals who do not possess an acceptable identity card can now apply for a temporary ID to prove their identity when casting their vote at the November elections. The National Elections Commission said applications can be forwarded to the NEC via the Grama Niladhari Officers or Estate Superintendents. The NEC said Grama Niladhari Officers & Estate Superintendents were given necessary instructions to accommodate this process along with a model application. It has been made mandatory to be in the possession of an accepted ID to cast the vote at the November Presidential election. Voters can produce their NIC, Passports, Driver's License, and ID issued for the clergy to cast their vote.
