Public requested to obtain valid identity cards for upcoming elections

COLOMBO (News 1st):- All voters who do not possess a valid identity card now have the opportunity to obtain an identity card in order to confirm their identity while placing their vote. The National Elections Commission states that the applications for these temporary identity cards could be obtained from the Grama Niladhari's of the respective divisions and estate superintendents. The commission further said that the above parties have already been notified of this process and have also been issued with a sample identity card. It has been deemed compulsory to possess a valid identity card when voting. Thereby the national identity card, a valid passport, driving license, the senior citizens' identity card or the identity card issued for the clergy could be produced as accepted documents to prove one's identity.
