COLOMBO (News 1st):- The work-to-rule trade union action launched by the railway workers has been temporarily called off. The decision to wind up the strike action was taken following the Railway Superintendent agreeing to resolve their issues.
Secretary of the Railway Engine Drivers Association, Indika Dodangoda said that the strike was primarily launched in objection to the decision taken to cover the cost of damages caused due to train accidents by the railway drivers and staff. Due to the work-to-rule action over 50 trains were delayed yesterday (September 20). However the drivers stated that the delays were also caused due to the malfunctions in the signal system.
