COLOMBO (News 1st) - UNP Deputy Leader and Minister, Sajith Premadasa has written to the party Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe asking him to name the presidential candidate soon.
Minister Sajith Premadasa, said that he had written the letter to the PM stating that any delay in the nomination of the candidate would lead to irreversible damage to both party and the country.
He added that as the son of Ranasinghe Premadasa if the United National Party and the United National Front were to select me, he is more than prepared to face this year's presidential election.
He further added that if there is any issue in putting forward his name, he requests it to be considered by the Working Committee and the Parliamentary Group, and have its approval sought.
He added that it was time to democratically nominate the presidential candidate. He went on to note that he believes in democracy and if it's difficult to take a unanimous decision, he requests the parliamentary group and Working Committee to resort to a secret ballot.
Minister Premadasa expressed these views while addressing a meeting in Uddakandara in Tissamaharama, where he vested the 287th and 288th Model villages constructed under the Semata Sevana Uda Gammana Programme, with the public. These villages, named Sandakusumgama and Sadethisgama, are comprised 0f 68 housing units.
Meanwhile, Minister Sajith Premadasa laid the foundation stone for the 2555th and 2556th model villages at Uddakandara, Tissamaharama.
